Aegis Balmoral is a facility that opened in the later half of 2015. A host of unique aged-care building innovations have been incorporated to create a safe, comfortable, stylish and functional environment.
The project consisted of two phases of work over a 115-week contract period. Stage 1 included the basement, which provides car parking, fire tanks and pumps, storerooms and a men’s shed with lift access to the other floors. The ground and first floors have load-bearing cavity brickwork external walls and brick internal walls, with suspended, reinforced concrete slab at the first floor and a timber truss roof with a clay tile cover.
The ground and first floors provide a total of 71 low-care bedrooms with en suites, dining and activity rooms with a theatre and a shaded courtyard.
Stage 2 required part demolition of the walls and roof. Two-storey extensions of face brickwork and a new timber truss and clay tile roof extend over both the extension and existing buildings.
The ground floor houses 23 new dementia-care rooms, lounge areas, dining spaces, courtyards, doctor’s rooms and a hair salon. The first floor houses 34 additional high-care bedrooms with similar facilities.
