Recommendations from the builder are what lead homeowner Paul to select designer Luke Van Jour of Distinct Innovations to assist in the design of his new home, on the banks of the Nepean River at Emu Plains.

The home was designed to make the most of river views from the rear while keeping the backyard open and functional for the client’s young family and for entertaining. The roof design was kept simple, but is highlighted by the use of glazed clay tiles, which provide a sleek and minimalist look. Other design elements include the use of recycled timber in posts and screens across the facade, as well as stonework and half-round guttering.

Paul was keen to keep electricity prices under control in his new home, so he and the builder installed a 10 kW solar array on the roof. Good design ensures that the bolt-on solar solution does not effect the curb appeal of the home.

Close collaboration between the owner, builder and designer has resulted in a home that is modern and functional. The inclusion of clay tiles has added longevity and style in a way that other roofing materials could not have achieved.
