The Australian Roofing Tile Association is once again proud to present the award for innovative use of concrete and terracotta roof tiles, in association with Think Brick Australia. Entries for this award are now open, along with the four other categories in the 2018 Think Brick Awards. Each category offers a $10,000 cash prize.

Since 2005 the Think Brick Awards have encouraged architects to reimagine the application of masonry in contemporary design. The program rewards innovation and craftsmanship in masonry, recognising the important contributions that architects, builders, bricklayers and manufacturers make to the process of creating outstanding architectural projects.

In 2011, the awards encompassed the roof tile industry and saw the introduction of the Robin Dods Roof Tile Excellence Award.

The Robin Dods Roof Tile Excellence Award invites you to push the envelope in innovative roof design using terracotta and concrete roof tiles – in both residential and commercial projects. The category is inspired by the work of architect Robin Dods (1868–1920), who believed in sustainable design to suit the climate, especially in roofing.

The four other categories are the Horbury Hunt Commercial Award, Horbury Hunt Residential Award, Kevin Borland Masonry Award and Bruce Mackenzie Landscape Award.

For those that have not entered a Think Brick Australia Award category before, now is the time to do so. In 2018 we are offering a special incentive. As an architect, if this is your first time entering the Think Brick Awards, you’ll be entered into our special New Entrant category. The best of our first-time entrants across all categories will also be awarded with $10,000 prize money.

Entries are open from 14 November 2017 to 11 May 2018, and the gala awards dinner will be held on 23 August 2018 at the Palladium, Crown Casino Melbourne.

We look forward to exploring how you are using imagination and innovation with bricks, pavers, blocks and roof tiles to create outstanding architectural projects. We wish you all the best with your entries!
