THINK BRICK AWARDS 2018
Check out our
2018 Think Brick Award winners display outstanding innovation!
The Crown Palladium in Melbourne hosted this year’s Greatest Awards. This marked the 12th year of the Think Brick Awards celebrating the use of clay bricks, concrete masonry and roof tiles in Australian architecture. With the addition of the New Entrant Award for those who had never entered our awards, we recorded one of our largest entry numbers to date, with 60% of these being new entrants.
Once again, the calibre of entries was inspiring. This year we saw some impressive innovation in the use of brick, masonry and roof tiles that really pushed the boundaries of contemporary architecture. We saw design that was unexpectedly delightful and playful, design that displayed sophisticated reimagining of classical shapes and projects that redefined the concept of a simple brick building.
A major trend emerging from the winners and high commendations is a move to interpret and incorporate the beautiful Australian landscape in their designs. Also, a move to create warmth in the design through use of material was another stand out trend. Among the entries there was also a real showcasing of use of brick to create a sense of grounded-ness and permanence. With the calibre of entries being so high this year, a joint winner was chosen for the Horbury Hunt Commercial Award.
I would like to congratulate the 2018 Think Brick winners:
Across the six categories, 26 finalists were selected with the above seven winners each receiving a cash prize of $10,000 for demonstrating original and new designs in their particular category.
Keep thinking brick, block, paving and roof tiles... and for those who missed out this year, we look forward to receiving your entries for the 2019 Think Brick Awards.
